Name of client:James Paget Hospital Overview of client requirements:It had been identified that the porters are regularly being called to disturbances in and around the hospital. Their secondary role is seen as security and as such, the risk assessment for their role had identified the requirement for training in safe holding techniques in addition to the CFSMS Conflict Resolution Training Course previously attended. The porters regularly come into contact with verbally and physically aggressive patients or visitors. They also have to deal with a range of patient issues such as drug and alcohol abuse, mental illness and frail or elderly persons that may require safe holding. The solution we provided:In consultation with the trust Health and Safety Advisor, we designed a course which was aimed at giving delegates additional confidence in conflict situations with the use of good communication skills and some techniques to defend against a determined attacker. The client specifically wanted us to explore ways of restraining subjects using non pain compliance methods and potentially on vulnerable or troubled individuals. In addition to the above physical skills, key learning objectives included use of force legislation and report writing skills. Feedback from participants from the course“I personally thought the course was well presented and enjoyed it thoroughly” “Excellent Day very good instructor very useful day as an A&E nurse” “Brilliant Trainer excellent worth while, would like to do more” “Very good course brilliant instructor superb” “Would like to have more advanced training now” Client Website: |
