Name of client

Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust

Overview of client requirements

The Foundation Trust's services include a full range of specialist adult and older people's services, psychology and therapy agencies as well as specialist learning disability services

The trust was looking for some fresh ideas for their trainers update programme. The staff attending the update were their in house trainers who are already qualified. The requirement was for a one day trainer update incorporating theory based Conflict Resolution Training and practical updates for breakaway skills and warm ups.

The Solution we provided

We provided a half day update for theory based Conflict resolution Training including some communication models the staff were not familiar with. We also provided a range of new ideas for integrating training specific warm up principals into their programme. Also included within the day were some alternative delivery methods for Breakaway Training skills and some new techniques.

Quote or Reference from the client including official job title.

IKON Training delivered a refresher course for our in-house Instructors who are all qualified in Prevention & Management of Violence & Aggression. The course was very well presented by trainers who were knowledgeable and professional about Conflict Resolution in the workplace.

The sessions on modes of communication also personal and environmental awareness were of particular interest during the theory sessions.

The practical sessions were also well presented and some techniques could be adapted for use. However as we work in a health care setting, we deliver care to especially vulnerable adults and as such would be unable to utilise some of the breakaway techniques demonstrated to us on the course. The trainers from IKON recognised the impact and significance of patient care and safety and understood the concerns that were voiced.

We did however find the alternative warm-up sessions very useful for highlighting different ways of personal safety and awareness of surroundings. A very enjoyable course delivered by trainers who were very easy to approach and who listened to concerns about working in very different areas from their own.
