West Suffolk Hospital NHS Trust

Name of client:

West Suffolk Hospital NHS Trust

Overview of client requirements:

1. As a direct result of directions from the secretary of state the CFSMS were tasked with developing a training package for all NHS staff to deal with violence and aggression in the workplace. This course is titled Conflict Resolution Training (CRT). The west Suffolk hospital NHS Trust was seeking a local provider who could deliver the required training at a competitive price within a flexible timescale.

2. Following the success of the CRT we provided, we were additionally tasked with producing a policy and training program for issues relating to violence and aggression from service users within the trust.

The solution we provided:

Although the CRT course has a number of set aims and objectives to be covered, the methodology of the training must be designed by the provider. IKON training developed our own unique session to account for the above requirements and delivered it within the time frame to suit West Suffolk Hospital.

We produced their safer Physical Intervention and Breakaway Policy which when completed allowed the trust to begin dealing more effectively with issues relating to violence and aggression.

Following a training needs analysis, a course was identified as a requirement along side the Physical Intervention and breakaway policy and we have provided the Physical Intervention and Breakaway Course for a wide range of staff called upon to deal with difficult situations in challenging conditions.

Quote/Reference from client:

"The West Suffolk Hospital has been using the services of IKON training (to deliver our Conflict Resolution and Restrictive Physical Intervention Training) for the last four years and I would recommend IKON, unreservedly, to anyone considering using this company. The highly professional and flexible approach that they employ has enabled the Trust to train the maximum amount of staff, in Conflict Resolution, without compromising the presence of trained staff on wards and departments.

IKON have played a major role in establishing a "Rapid Restrictive Physical Intervention Team", designed to give assistance to nursing staff when dealing with clinically confused and violent patients. This team now provides vital support to nursing staff who previously felt isolated and vulnerable when dealing with these types of incidents.

As the Trust’s Local Security Management Specialist IKON training has and is a great boon to me whilst performing my job."

James Pretty, Local Security Management Specialist (LSMS), West Suffolk Hospital NHS Trust.
