To provide delegates with the basic knowledge, understanding and skills to deal with potential conflict situations. |

| Course Objectives: |
|
By the end of the course, delegates should be able to: |
- describe common causes of conflict
- describe the two forms of ‘communication’
- give examples of how communication can breakdown
- explain three examples of ‘communication models’ that can assist in conflict resolution
- describe patterns of behaviours you may encounter during different interactions
- give examples of the different warning and danger signs
- give examples of impact factors
- describe the use of distance when dealing with ‘conflict’
- explain the use of ‘reasonable force’ as it applies to conflict resolution
- describe different methods for dealing with possible conflict situations.
Content
We will aim to conduct the workshop within 3½ - 4 hours with appropriate comfort breaks. This is designed around the specific objectives set by the CFSMS and will be presented in a power point format using various methodology e.g. facilitation, group exercises and demonstrations. The length of time given to each module may vary dependant on the competency and previous training received by the delegates.

- Common drivers/causes of conflict?
- Aggression management model
- Stress reactions
- Components of communication (Verbal/non verbal %)
- NVC’s - Warning and danger signs and submission signs
- Common Offender Behaviour
- Proxemics – Intimate, personal and public zones.
- Impact factors – Person, object and place
- Use of force legislation (common Law and Section 3 CLA 1967)
- Communication Models (LEAPS, Betaris Box, Five step Appeal)
- Assistance/attack alarms, crisis communication
- Distance –action v reaction.
- Physical barriers – desk, chair etc
- Escape routes, layout of room etc
We can provide a detailed lesson plan if required.
